Transport
Connecting every part of the country.
Our Vision
Britain's transport network should be a source of pride — reliable, affordable and fit for the 21st century. Upgrade UK wants to connect every town and city with modern infrastructure that supports economic growth, reduces congestion and gives people real alternatives to the car.
The Challenge
Roads are congested, rail services are unreliable and too many towns feel cut off from opportunity. Transport spending is overwhelmingly focused on London, while the rest of the country is left with outdated infrastructure. Businesses outside the capital struggle to compete when their workers and goods cannot move efficiently.
Key Policies
- Accelerate Northern Powerhouse Rail with a commitment to complete major links by 2032
- Launch a £5 billion rural connectivity fund to improve bus services, road maintenance and digital links in underserved areas
- Introduce a national cap on rail fares at 2% below inflation to make trains affordable for commuters
- Build 10 new major road upgrade schemes outside London and the South East within five years
- Fast-track electric vehicle charging infrastructure with a target of 500,000 public chargers by 2030
Why This Matters
Transport is the backbone of economic life. When people and goods can move freely and affordably, businesses grow, towns thrive and opportunities spread. Without proper investment, Britain's regions will continue to fall behind and the gap between the North and South will only widen.
