Technology

Digital Britain for the next generation.

Our Vision

Technology should serve the people, not the other way around. Upgrade UK wants Britain to lead the world in digital innovation while protecting citizens from online harms. We believe in a digital Britain that is inclusive, secure and built on the skills of the next generation.

The Challenge

Britain risks falling behind in the global technology race. Full-fibre broadband still hasn't reached millions of homes, digital skills are lacking in the workforce, and online safety laws are not being enforced. Meanwhile, artificial intelligence is transforming industries with little input from government or workers.

Key Policies

  • Deliver gigabit broadband to 99% of premises by 2029 through a mix of private investment and public subsidy
  • Launch a National Digital Skills Programme offering free coding, data and AI training to one million adults over five years
  • Introduce an AI Safety Framework that promotes innovation while setting clear rules on transparency, bias and accountability
  • Create a Cyber Defence Academy to train 10,000 new cybersecurity professionals and protect critical national infrastructure
  • Require all government digital services to meet a new Accessibility Standard by 2028, ensuring no one is excluded online

Why This Matters

Technology is reshaping every aspect of our lives — from how we work to how we access public services. Britain can either lead this transformation or be left behind. By investing in digital skills, infrastructure and smart regulation, we can ensure that technology works for everyone, not just the tech giants.
