Housing
Affordable homes for every generation.
Our Vision
Every British family deserves a decent, affordable home they can call their own. Upgrade UK believes that home ownership should be achievable for young people and that renters should be protected by fair, clear tenancy laws. Britain needs to build more homes — and build them well.
The Challenge
The housing crisis is one of Britain's greatest failures. House prices have outpaced wages for decades, young people are locked out of ownership, and social housing waiting lists stretch into the millions. The planning system is slow and restrictive, while builders face too many barriers to get homes completed.
Key Policies
- Set a national target of 380,000 new homes per year, with priority given to first-time buyers in every region
- Reform the planning system to allow faster development on brownfield sites with streamlined local approval
- Create a First Homes scheme offering 30% discounts on new-build properties for local first-time buyers
- Introduce a Renters' Charter with longer tenancy protections, a cap on annual rent increases and an end to no-fault evictions
- Invest £10 billion in social and affordable housing construction through a new National Housing Trust
Why This Matters
Housing is the foundation of personal security. When people have a stable home, they build better lives, raise stronger families and contribute more to their communities. Solving the housing crisis is not just about bricks and mortar — it is about restoring the promise that hard work leads to a decent life.
