Environment
Protecting Britain's natural landscape.
Our Vision
Britain's countryside, rivers and wildlife are among our greatest treasures. Upgrade UK believes that environmental protection and economic prosperity go hand in hand. We want to leave the next generation a cleaner, greener country — with policies that are practical, affordable and deliver real results.
The Challenge
Britain faces serious environmental challenges: water companies dump raw sewage into rivers, biodiversity is in decline, and too many communities live with polluted air. At the same time, some environmental policies are poorly designed and impose heavy costs on families and businesses without delivering clear benefits.
Key Policies
- Set legally binding targets to end raw sewage discharges into rivers by 2035 with a £20 billion upgrade programme
- Protect 30% of Britain's land and sea as nature reserves by 2030 to reverse biodiversity loss
- Launch a national tree-planting programme to grow 50 million new trees per year by 2028
- Introduce a clean air action plan for the 20 most polluted towns and cities with real-time monitoring and enforcement
- Create a Green Skills Guarantee funding 200,000 apprenticeships in environmental industries over five years
Why This Matters
The environment is not a luxury issue — it affects everyone. Clean air, safe water and thriving wildlife are fundamental to our quality of life and our economy. Tourism, farming and fishing all depend on a healthy natural world. Protecting it is both a moral duty and an economic investment.
