Education
Real skills for the modern world.
Our Vision
Every child and young person in Britain deserves an education that prepares them for real life — not just exams. Upgrade UK wants a system that values practical skills, critical thinking and creativity as much as academic achievement, and ensures every school has the funding and freedom to deliver it.
The Challenge
Too many schools are underfunded, teachers are leaving the profession, and the curriculum feels stuck in the past. Employers consistently report that school leavers lack the skills they need, while university debts pile up for careers that no longer require degrees. The gap between classroom and workplace has never been wider.
Key Policies
- Introduce a £1 billion per year Schools Excellence Fund to replace outdated classroom technology and buildings
- Make vocational and technical training equal in status to academic routes from age 14 onwards
- Recruit 10,000 new teachers with competitive salaries and reduced administrative workloads
- Teach financial literacy, digital skills and first aid as compulsory subjects in every school
- Guarantee every secondary school an independent careers adviser with direct employer connections
Why This Matters
Education is the foundation of every other policy area. A workforce with real, modern skills drives economic growth, reduces inequality and strengthens communities. When we get education right, everything else follows — from health outcomes to innovation and national competitiveness.
