Britain's economy should work for everyone, not just those in London and the South East. Upgrade UK wants to build a dynamic, innovative economy that creates well-paid jobs in every region, keeps taxes fair, and gives small businesses the confidence to invest and grow.
The Challenge
Economic growth has stalled while the cost of living continues to squeeze families. Too many regions feel left behind by an economy that is overly centralised around the capital. High taxes and heavy regulation are driving investment overseas, while public services deliver less for the money they take.
Key Policies
- Launch a Regional Growth Fund to invest £15 billion over five years in infrastructure, skills and enterprise outside London
- Cut corporation tax for small and medium businesses to 17% to boost hiring and investment
- Create eight new Enterprise Zones with simplified planning and zero business rates for the first three years
- Reform the Apprenticeship Levy into a flexible Skills Fund that businesses can spend on any accredited training
- Set a target to reduce government spending by 5% over three years through efficiency savings, not cuts to front-line services
