Business
Cutting red tape, backing enterprise.
Our Vision
Small and medium businesses are the backbone of the British economy. Upgrade UK wants to make Britain the easiest place in the world to start and grow a business — with lower taxes, less bureaucracy and a government that sees entrepreneurs as partners, not problems.
The Challenge
British businesses are drowning in regulation, facing some of the highest tax rates in the G7 and struggling with labour shortages. The administrative burden on small firms has grown every year, while energy costs and National Insurance contributions make it harder to hire and invest.
Key Policies
- Introduce a Regulatory Reduction Act requiring the government to cut two regulations for every new one introduced
- Raise the Small Business Rate Relief threshold to £25,000 to help high street shops and local firms
- Create a one-stop Digital Business Portal so all government interactions — tax, licensing, permits — are handled online in one place
- Offer a two-year National Insurance holiday for businesses that create five or more new full-time roles
- Establish a £1 billion British Enterprise Fund to provide low-interest loans to start-ups and scale-ups outside London
Why This Matters
Businesses create jobs, drive innovation and fund public services through the taxes they pay. When it is easier to start a business, more people take the risk. When it is cheaper to hire, unemployment falls. Backing enterprise is not just good for business owners — it is good for every working family in Britain.
